An amazing CS video. I’m told it’s Christensen who made it as a final project in his Film Studies Thanks to James, it was made by CHRISTOPHER J. HEDEEN.

Black Holes

December 26, 2006 Parth Awasthi Leave a comment

I want my resume to grow exponentially… till It can contract infinitely and fit on a Business Card…

Like a Star that undergoes contraction under it’s own gravity… the horizon of the black hole is all I need to search for now. Hmmm.

The Sad Alpha Male

December 20, 2006 Parth Awasthi 1 comment

Loads of confusion on my last post, so here are some expansions to my line of thought.

Let us first clear the air on what is an Alpha Male? The Alpha Male, to begin with is a very limited construct that is associated only with evolved Predators, more specifically those that hunt in Packs or those where there is a tougher struggle for survival (resource, i.e. Food crunch being the chief cause of the same). In general, it implies males who can lead (the reason for the sexual discrimination being the muscle power of the male). The Rabbits don’t have alpha males, neither do doves, nor do lizards or others in similar classes of species; Wolves have them, as do Several other hunting classes.

If we were to speak of an Alpha Male in the Human Species; which, in my opinion and probably the most controversial point in the entire post, classifies under both a species facing the fight for survival as well as is uncannily similar to a hunting species; we would be speaking of Men who have greater mental capabilities – for the humans, it hardly depends on the Muscle power any more.

More on this soon… When I have time from work, that is…

The Poor Alpha Male

There are quite a few behaviour of the human species that baffle me completely. It separates them from the usual behaviour of the Animal kingdom. One such is the completely unexplainable mating behaviour of theirs. While in every other Species, it is the easiest for the Alpha Male to find a mate, it is the stark opposite for the human species. Most alpha men are single while a very significant portion of the normal ones find mates very easily.

It shall be felony to classify directly but I have been thinking on it and it is just possible that it is the sexual revolution 2.0 that is responsible for this. Some psychological changes (beyond the scope of this post) have led to what I believe is a new construction – the alpha female. Psychologically alike to the Alpha Male, she is powerful as well, in most realizations of the adjective atleast. The problem now arises – Alpha males want the best they’ve got and the Alpha Females are most definitely not going to be easy to get, in fact the alpha females seek their own mates.

Any more theories?

Fee Fi Fo Fum

In general, the Indian diaspora is still extremely wary of financial products and Investment Plans. The kind of responses that typical products elicit are frowns, raised eyebrows and scratching heads.

Another observation is a fear of the Bigger Banks. The common man of India is still afraid of the glitz and glamour that these institutions bring alongwith. “To be that consumer friendly, they must be charging one through the nose.” is the response that my father gave me when I took him to the Best Personal Banking Organization in the world (Forbes).

Another issue that I’ve been wondering about is the scarcity of the number of financial products on the altar; given the emerging market that India is, they are too few. If someone was to introduce real credit options for instance – No interest for 3 months/6 months/12 months, consumers like me would only be delighted. I wonder what is stopping these Men.

Once more, the bugle has been blown on the P2P ruckus, this time in France. I’m just wondering all over again if there could be a simpler way?

You know my name…

You do, don’t you? You are wise enough to know those who can eliminate you.

I fear you no longer. Not any more. That fear is the only thing worth being afraid of is something that I have believed in and known for a very long time; i am getting closer.  I just realised that is precisely what I have been trying to learn all this while. I know that I’m here to learn just that. Somehow what ever I fear always happens. I think this holds true for everyone in this freakin’ world. What you fear happens to you. You fear losing, you lose. You fear loving, you are bound to fall in love. You fear living, you’ll be forced to. You fear death…

Peerless

Peer to peer softwares are so overwhelmingly proliferated, I didn’t quite need to be told about this to know it was there. I’m pretty sure jack and kelly are trading out copyrighted stuff too. So must be everyone out there. I wonder how long would it be before people realised that they have to come up with a new business model in the networked society. While iTunes and Napster do have a stand in the market, there’s just no way that everyone’s gonna pay. Most would still rip off illegal MP3s from some or the other place.

Any Bright Ideas? I’m still thinking.

The Great Indian Dream

December 3, 2006 Parth Awasthi Leave a comment

Though i’m having a massive Deja Vu about it, I loathe the idea enough to crib over it all over again. Some odd years ago, a guy got a book called ‘The Great Indian Dream’ Published (please do a google if you don’t quite remember). The Idea was so utterly stupid that I tore him to pieces. I was unaware of the fact that I’d be proved so utterly wrong in just a few years. Indians now do have a Great Dream – the ever empowering MBA.

Day in and day out I see people who want to get into a business school, get an MBA and make life all rosy. Having spoken to dozens of people on the topic, I can very well layout a typical candidate who goes for an MBA in India. Monetary gains top their priority and Expectations of Blissful opportunities to work upon are abundant. They don’t know themselves or the reasons they want an MBA. Most have no clue what an MBA is going to do to their career.

Think of a world 15 years from now. If things go the way they are going, we’d see a plethora of managers who have no clue about what to manage and an apparent zeal to do so based on a misconceived notion that they know how to do it. Who’d do all the otherwork then? Hmmm… We’ll have to wait and watch.
